Of The Three Magi

Prester John was rumored to be a descendant of the three magi. He was a christian king who ruled over Ethiopia, was in possession of a great fortune, magical creatures (but of course) and safe guarded the Holy Grail.

The Prester John Memorial – supposedly the only one in the world – is found near city hall in the old part of Nelson Mandela Bay. In the centre of the coptic cross, comfortably sit the mythical king-priest, Prester John, and an unnamed Portuguese navigator – probably of Diaz’s era.

Towards the end of 1486, Bartolomeu Diaz was commissioned by King John II of Portugal to sail around the southernmost tip of Africa in search of Prester John. He never did find him, instead he happened upon South Africa.
