Seoul Fireworks Festival

My magpie gene – the uncontrollable weakness to stare at or buy all things bright, shiny and sparkling – was temporarily satiated by the 8th Seoul Fireworks Festival held last night. Yeouido Island was the ideal location. Despite the crowds (this is Seoul we’re talking about after all) we managed to find a patch of grass in the park by the Hangang River. The firework display was set off from two bridges over the Hangang River, which was illuminated by the dazzling colours. Luminous lights and synchronised lasers enhanced the kaleidoscope effect and our mesmerised heads were upturned for over an hour and a half as we relived our childhoods. The accompanying music could barely be heard as Seoulites ‘oohed’, ‘aahed’ and applauded.
